Each industry has its own joking.
workwear garments factory business also has one, which is very popular and anyone involved in this business has to nod his head and deeply agree. it is like this:
In this world, if you hate somebody, the best way to hurt him is to persuade him to run a garment factory.
Of course, you can replace "a garment factory" to any other industries, because I believe people who worked long time in same industry may get bored and dislike it finally, but that will not make this "famous expression" less reasonable. this expression suits garment industry much better than any other industries. but the good result is, after you work in this garment industry for a long time, your characters are changed. we became more cautious, more detail-minded, and more sensitive. our brains are well trained every day, because we handled much information. Some products are made by machine, which you just need to make a mold, set up the machine, and switch on, then you have final products, but garment business deal with people. Communications goes between people and people, from sourcing fabric yardage to make development samples, to shipping agent who unload the goods to the port, each order will involve at least 10 different companies, they are:
Fabric mill 1 for cotton or T/C fabric
Fabric mill 2 for polyster/nylon fabric (no dying factory dye cotton and nylon factory at the same place, because they are two kinds machines and belongs to two different businesses)
Zipper factory
button factory
woven labels factory
padding filler factory
interlining factory
quilting factory (if necessary)
cartons factory
polybag factory
garment sewing factory
in-land transport company
Logistics company
customs
customers
the thing is, we have no shortcut to make an "all-in-one" solution, we must contact all of them to fulfill one order. if we didn't have a strong and efficient brain, we cannot manage. I still remember that my father questioned me 16 years ago: why are you always busy, coming back so late everyday? what on earth are you doing? Isn't the business that you buy something from someone, add your margin and then sell to others? Well, buy, add margin, and sell, three steps, looks easy. I don't know who to let him understand. but 8 years ago, we built up our first workwear garment factory, my father helped me and worked as the factory manager for 6 years. now he never says even a single word like "what on earth makes you so busy"--he already encountered what is "garment producing business". it is good! we have lots of common language nowadays. He understood everything and when I am late home, he served with a warm bowel of noodle and just said "come and eat first, take care of your health".
